Ps 49. Dan Kroon. On Easter Sunday we recognised how Jesus’ redemption saves us from the permanence and decay of the grave. This Sunday we return to that theme, especially in light of wealth and materialism. Psalm 49 makes it clear that no amount of money can buy off death. Rich and poor; foolish and wise: all people face the grave. In that sense we are no different to the animals. The key to life is not in "blessing" or success or the praise of others. As Jesus said, "Life does not consist in an abundance of possessions." (Lk 12:15). No, the key to life is in the priceless ransom of Jesus, which, by grace, guards us against jealousy and materialism.
